MDL Forwarding expands the geography of its container deep sea service Russia – Latin America

Launched in February 2023 between Saint Petersburg and Brazil, the MAREX deep sea service will soon start to make regular port calls in Argentina and Uruguay as well

During its first year, MAREX has transported over 8000 TEUs of various cargoes between Russia and Brazil and expanded the geography of its ports of call from two to seven, such as Suape, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Paranaguá, Itapoá, Rio Grande.

After the exit of global shipping lines, the launch of this own container deep sea service opened up the opportunity to deliver goods from Brazil to Russia via the most convenient, direct route, which has an obvious advantage over carriage with transshipment in Turkey or Europe. Thanks to the short transit time – 20-25 days – the service is especially popular among Brazilian shippers of refrigerated goods.

Exports from Russia to Brazil mainly include fertilizers, building materials, as well as cereals and confectionery products.  Imports from Brazil are food products: fruit, coffee, cocoa beans, nuts, meat products, soybean meal.

“We continuously expand the range of transported goods and also add new ports of call. In the nearest future we are launching the service to Argentina and Uruguay, as these countries have high prospects for the development of trade with Russia. At the first stage, regular service between Saint Petersburg and the ports of Montevideo and Buenos Aires will be established”, – said Vladimir Gui, Commercial Director of MDL Forwarding.
