Amid the shortage of semi-trailers, MDL Forwarding successfully rebuilds used equipment

The freight forwarding company can currently repair up to 60 container trailers per month, and is ready to provide capacity for a larger output.

A severe shortage of trailers and attachments has arisen after European manufacturers exited the Russian market. Sales of new equipment are increasing, but domestic factories, which hold almost 80% of the domestic market, do not keep up with the demand. For example, today the lead time for finished container semi-trailers ranges from 4 to 12 months. And the secondary market supply is completely exhausted. In order to complete their fleets, most companies began to look for opportunities to restore the operability of their old equipment. High demand resulted in higher prices and longer lead time for repair.

MDL Forwarding has found an answer to the problem by expanding the functionality of its own repair depot at TLC “MODUL Pulkovsky” which has been restoring containers since 2009. To organize the repair of semi-trailers, all necessary equipment was allocated and highly qualified personnel were involved, including experienced argon welders certified by the RMRS for welding of stainless steel and aluminum.

The issue of providing the necessary spare parts has been fully resolved: simple ones are made independently by company’s specialists of appropriate qualifications, more complex ones are ordered from partners or from domestic equipment manufacturers. Currently, the option of purchasing components, in particular load gripping mechanisms, in China is being considered. The company plans to deliver them by its own vehicles.
